Reflections on Matlakyei Tochtli, Nemontemi, Yei Akatl

Today is Matlakyei Tochtli (13 Rabbit) and interestingly though not surprisingly, it is the end of a cycle and beginning of a new one, right smack in the middle of the Nemontemi Days, (the final 5 days of the solar cycle). This past year, Yei Akatl (3 Reed) was a year in which we had to face, head on, all our self-imposed, emotional & psychological limitations, in which we had to decide which direction we wanted to take, in which strong, if not path-altering, decisions were made, and in which we had to polish our thoughts and emotions to put us in place to receive everything we deserve.

As this year rounds out and we reflect over the past year during these Nemontemi Days, today (from approximately 12:45pm until 12:45pm tomorrow) in true Tochtli form, requires us to be hard at work, busy, responsibly carrying the load & creatively solving problems even though what we really wanted to do was stay under the covers & retreat into our caves... Nonetheless, we must be creative and responsible today, all while remembering to be in constant consciousness, reflection and introspection... only by keeping our feet firmly grounded while our head is with the stars, that is, centered and grounded, while illuminating our inner darkness, will we be able to activate within the forces that are abundantly surrounding us today...

Tochtli's guiding essence of Meyahual, the mother of the circle of the Maguey, is the force that activates us to be self-sufficient, hard working, yet connected to the intangible feminine & ancestors, nurturing ourselves from our deepest roots... Citlallinikue, the one with the skirt of stars, the feminine Diurnal essence of the day which influences us to constantly search for light within the subconscious & unconscious darkness, and which finishes the Diurnal cycle... and finally with a strong nocturnal essence of Xiuhtekuhtli, beginning a new nocturnal cycle and reminding us that centrality and integrity are the key to internal growth.

Both the Diurnal & Nocturnal Guide remind us to look above to the skies, which, in doing so, we soon realize that today there is not only a solar eclipse but a new moon as well. The Diurnal Cycle ends, while a Nocturnal cycle begins... all our limitations that we have consciously placed before us, must be discarded so that we may realize our inner potential, the seed waiting to bloom... This duality of Night & Day, internal & external, reflection & activity, further highlighted, reminds us that we must constantly go deep within, even while active, to be conscious, and be willing to do the hard work that it really takes for us to renew ourselves, to transcend, and to create a new cycle in the spiral, not just for ourselves but for our community as well...

We are being surrounded by the forces/essences/energies necessary to activate a new beginning within us, to create a new chapter for ourselves, to finally resolve all of those problems that have been nagging us for years even, and, in finding the "sacred" within the "mundane" realize that everything we have been searching for or wanting is already here, surrounding us, within us... it is all simply waiting for us to reach out and take hold, to shift our perspective and see it, all the elements necessary for us to fulfill our potential have been determined by Ipalnemohua already and it is now up to us to create it with our thoughts, actions & behaviors... Sometimes all it takes is a veil to be shifted, lifted... or say, dropped over the sun... ;)

Take advantage of today's closure so we can begin anew tomorrow with Ze Atl (One Water), preparing us for the big changes and hard work up ahead in Nahui Tekpatl Xihuitl (Year 4 Flint Knife)... we're going to need it ;)
