Hueytozoztli is one of the cycles of 20 days (or 20-day months) in the complex ancestral calendar system called the Tonalpohualli, which also included cycles of the Sun, the Moon, Venus and more. The 20-day cycles, often called veintenas, were based on the cycles of the Earth and Nature. These ancient scientists observed the natural cycles of the plants, animals, insects, birds, and seasons and developed a system for humans to reflect in their behaviors, actions & thoughts what they observed to be in harmony with Nature. This next veintena, Hueytozoztli, begins May 11th 2013. At this time, people begin a vegetarian diet, which was led into by the pescatarian diet of the last veintena, Tozoztontli. Ceremony will be held at Gary Elementary's LVEJO Garden at 3740 W 31st St, Chicago, IL 60623. Cross Streets: Between S Ridgeway Ave and S Lawndale Ave ... The ceremony will be outside so please dress according to the weather. All white attire with a red band across forehead and waist is recommended, please no feathers in accordance with the Mazehual tradition.
