Closing Cycles and Beginning New Ones

4/24/2014

Our ancestors viewed time differently than this contemporary society: rather than a linear sequence that is run through, each year growing in number and passing once never to return again, the Toltekatl path of knowledge views time as a spiral of cycles, flowing and returning just as nature and the universe moves.

Tlakaxipehualiztli Ceremony & Huiztli (Ear Expanding) Tradition

As this spring opened and the new cycle of growth began, many of us joined joven maestro Akaxe Yotzin who guided us in a Tlakaxipehualiztli Ceremony (literally, when we change our skin) this past week allowing us to consciously renew ourselves as we grow our new skins this coming year. We also began new cycles of learning and polishing in a Huiztli/Nakochtli Ritual he conducted.

Tlazohkamati to everyone who shared time and space with us all in this beautiful and harmonious ceremony & to joven maestro Akaxe for continuing to teach and guide us.

To further explain the historical, symbolic, & physiological significance of the Huiztli s (ear expanders) and Nakochtli's (gauges)  joven maestro Akaxe will be teaching a Class on this tradition Saturday June 14, at 12 pm. Click here for more information and to register.

Hueytozoztli Ceremony with LVEJO

We are currently in the Tozoztontli 20-Day Cycle during which our ancestors would only eat a pescatarian diet to allow their bodies to cleanse, nature to renew itself and the animals to reproduce abundantly.  During Hueytozoztli the next veintena, they would fast from all animal products as they prepared themselves to begin working with the earth.

In line with these ancient traditions, we will be holding a Seed Activating Ceremony at the beginning of May in Little Village for everyone who is heading an urban, community or personal garden in partnership with the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization.

Details will be shared later this week. If you or your group are interested in participating please contact us at nahualessons@gmail.com
