The Four Principles of the Mazehual

Developed by Temachtiani Akaxe after studying the Huehuetlahtolli & Chronicles & consejos from his Maestros & Elders in his Native Community, these are the foundational principles of our school, Mahtinauhkalli, of our larger organization, and the way we conduct ourselves in community.

Our hope is to teach this so that these principles infuse not only the interactions in our organized spaces, but our student’s lives outside of our walls as well. By embodying these principles, we hope they may positively impact the larger community.

Temachtiani Akaxe always reminds us that it is important to remember to strive to be honest while being respectful, and to be respectful while being honest.

It is also important to understand that it is through gratitude that we should serve and strive to be useful, not through sacrifice.

This child however, was so overwhelmed by the salty & bitter that he would not stop crying & refused to continue, & the poor thing never got to the sweet flavor of agave nectar that was waiting for him. ⁣
⁣
This, our teacher & tlamakazke Akaxe explained, was a perfect lesson for us all, an opportunity to see the symbolism and our inner child reflected in this little mirror... Sometimes life brings us tough lessons, or sad & difficult moments that challenge us in many ways. And sometimes, instead of using the healthy coping
