Reflections on Tlaxochimako

Miktlantekuhtli & Chikuauhtli ~ Art by Akaxe YotzinMiktlantekuhtli & Chikuauhtli, art by Akaxe Yotzin
As we move closer to the final days of Tlaxochimako, it is important to deeply reflect not only on our close loved ones who have passed on to Miktlan, but all our ancestors, from all parts of the world, who have walked this path before us. To understand that each one of them continues to exist, within each of our cells, in the plants, the animals and the forces of Life-Death on Tlaltikpak allows us to understand that we are intricately connected to all, we are bonded to all, and that therefore we have all of that information and all of that wisdom within every cell of our body.

From the matter in our bodies to the essence of our Life, Death is simply, yet profoundly, the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle. Our ancestors understood that this lifetime is our preparation for this next cycle, just as the little bird learns and grows its feathers so that it may be ready to fly away from the nest, we grow and learn so that we may fly away from our Mother's Nest we call Earth. In this way we can go deep into our subconscious Yayauhki Tezkatlipoka and allow it to manifest to our conscious Iztac Tezkatlipoka.

Today, 5 Zipaktli on August 19th, we begin the twenty day cycle of the Tonalpohualli named Tlaxochimaco. Literally when the flowers are offered, this is a time when the last flowers of summer open before the final fruits of the season, a time of honoring our ancestors who have passed to Miktlan.

We will be marking this season for our consciousness on the final day of the veintena, Xochitl which falls on Saturday September 7 of the gregorian calendar. We invite those of you who will be preparing during these days to hold ceremony with us and share time and space with community in respect and harmony.

Time and location will be shared soon. Please let us know if you plan on attending and if you have any questions.

We are grateful that we have had the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of teens this summer through After School Matters.

They  learned Native Mazehual danza and drumming. As well as Yaotilliztli (the native warrior discipline) & Ehekapahtinime (native breathing and posture exercises) and have done an amazing job learning applying and sharing their new skills.

Video of the Final Presentation will be posted soon to share their great work.
