This framework for the chants classes that we've been implementing is a great entry point for new students to join and get the background and context around the nahuatl cantos and understand how crucial they were and are to everything from daily life to rituals…
In fact there are many ancient rituals where there was no danza (what today is the preferred form of ofrendas) but there was ALWAYS wind offerings in the form of chants… that is how powerful this form of ofrenda is yet it continues to be largely overlooked by many…
So this course is for those of you who’ve wanted to learn beginners chants in nahuatl and who want to learn both their literal translations as well as metaphorical symbolism and who want to understand when and how different ancestral nahua chants can be used.
Each Cenyotl will focus on only 1 chant (however this time there are 2) at a time so that we can really embrace the meaning and essence of the chant.
Keep in mind that this isn't a theoretical or intellectual class, we will all be taking turns singing during class :) so students will be expected to sing with camera and microphone on along with their fellow students during the live classes. This class is therefore especially good for folks with musical backgrounds, for folks who enjoy offering up cantos as offerings, or who won't be too shy to sing live in the course.
Being present in class is strongly encouraged to help with pronunciation & rhythm
We will have a limited number of spaces available for this Cenyotl to create a safe container for sharing our voices so if you are interested in joining register as soon as possible.

Nezahualliztli/Tlakatlakualliztli (Fasting Disciplines)
Join us for this new course beginning on Monday Feb 13th, on the ancient Nahua discipline & offering of Fasting
Today fasting is treated like a recently discovered healing methodology, with more & more health benefits being “discovered” in current research studies. However the truth is, fasting is an ancient practice that has evolved with humans all over the globe and integrated into almost every spiritual path
In the ancient Nahua nations, fasting was considered a discipline & an offering. From ritual to political, we see it show up over and over in the symbolic & written codexes. Offering us a much needed ancestral context to this ever growing fad.
In this course we will study & analyze historical & ritual documents, share lived experiences, teachings from elders & communities, and weave it with the symbolism & rituals we already know to offer a decolonial perspective of the discipline of fasting
We will review:
*The ancient Nahua concepts of fasting.
*Brief scientific explanation of the effects and benefits of the nahua fasting.
*Explaining the fasting and offerings according to Florentine codex and primeros memoriales.
*Times and kinds for fasting for different paths.
*Fasting for the Nemontemi & shift of year
Every Monday beginning Feb 13th at 730pm CST. We are intentionally starting this course as a way to ground, orient & focus ourselves for the fasting necessary for the Shift of Year in March.
